Peridot is the birthstone of August and the gemstone for the 15th marriage anniversary. Not only does the color of the stones seem almost alien, it indeed has extraterrestrial origins. Peridot has been known to be found in comet dust and in pallasite meteorites, which are remnants of the birth of our solar system. Thus, making some Peridot truly ancient at 4.5 billion years old.
