The name Ruby comes ftom the Latin word ruber, which means red. lt's a favorite of gems amongst-those in power and in love, inspiring more emotion than almost any other stone. The historic term for top color found in Rubies is "pigeon's blood" which references its similarity to the blood drop of a pigeon or dove. In the Middle-Ages, Rubies were viewed as a stone of prophecy. It was thought the stone darkened when danger was present or grew near.
