Fluorite comes in a wide array of rainbow colors including rich purples, blues, yellows to beautiful greens and more. It's a favorite of many gem and mineral collectors for such wide color variations. In 1852, the phenomenon of "fluorescence" was named after fluorite, since it was one of the first fluorescent minerals to be studied. Fluorite is frequently fluorescent under U.V. light.
